![]() ![]() While this book definitely takes inspiration from the Princess Bride, I'd hesitate to really call it a retelling. That being said, the book is still fantastic and I am EAGERLY awaiting it's sequel, whenever that comes out. I just think the story could have done with one or two more scenes of pure mushy romance, that's all. Don't get me wrong, the instances they do get to be alone are incredibly sweet, and their romance is easily my favorite part, but they spend most of the book separated from each other, and when they finally do get reunited they're surrounded by other characters or dealing with some sort of emergency. Also, the amount of time the two main characters get to be alone together felt a bit sparse. Only a tiny bit though, it's mostly fine. I can't go into detail without doing spoilers, so all I'll say is that the ease with which the main climax is resolved left me a bit. My only real complaint would be that I felt final couple of chapters were a tad rushed. ![]() ![]() The author manages to be unpredictable without losing believability, and I think that is amazing. Every character is so amazingly written that I just couldn't stop listening, I was desperate to know how they'd manage to get out of the next situation, and I gotta say, the answer was never what I originally thought. But the characters and writing in this are so fantastic here that I didn't care, I loved it regardless. I'll be honest, I typically hate books with any significant focus on royal politics. ![]()
